The Banksia Classroom
3-Year-Old Kindergarten

Our Banksia Classroom is a nurturing introduction to the kindergarten journey, designed especially for children beginning their formal early learning experience. This program lays the foundations for future learning and wellbeing, with a strong focus on emotional development, secure relationships, communication, and the early building blocks of lifelong learning.

At this stage of development, children learn best when they feel safe, seen, and supported. Our educators place great importance on building trusting, responsive relationships that allow each child to feel confident exploring their environment and engaging with others. Through warm interactions and consistent routines, children develop a sense of belonging and begin to understand themselves as part of a caring community.

The program supports emotional wellbeing by helping children recognise and express their feelings, build care and understanding for others, and practise self-regulation. Guided group experiences, storytelling, mindfulness moments, and cooperative play help strengthen social connections and resilience.

Alongside this strong focus on wellbeing, educators weave rich opportunities for intentional, skill-based learning into every part of the day.

Children are encouraged to explore early literacy through storytelling, songs, rhyme, and mark-making; numeracy concepts through counting, sequencing, measurement, and spatial play; and STEM exploration through hands-on investigation, problem-solving, and curiosity about how things work. Creative arts, sensory play, and nature-based learning further inspire imagination and self-expression, helping children make sense of the world around them.

The day is designed with a balance of structure and flexibility, allowing children to build focus and independence while still having time for wonder, play, and discovery.
The Banksia team works in close partnership with families to support each child’s holistic growth — socially, emotionally, and cognitively.

While the Banksia Classroom operates as a Government-Funded Kindergarten, families also benefit from extended hours of care, offering the best of both worlds: a rich, relationship-driven learning program within a flexible setting that supports working families.
